I was wondering where we rated in the "crazy dog people" pool, and if others celebrate doggie birthdays at all, or perhaps the way we do - with some extra loving, some extra treats, and maybe a fun outing for the day.
Last year, we took the girls to a MN Swarm Game (lacrosse), for the one day a year they allow dogs into the Xcel Center in St. Paul (also where the MN Wild play). We sat in the nosebleed section, but they loved it!
This year, we took them for a long walk in Shakopee, along the river, and Ramsey got to run and run and run. And of course, there were extra treats. For Suvi's birthday in years past, she's gotten to hang out on the patio of dog-friendly restaurants, and we've even celebrated with human friends.
I googled a bit today to see what other people do, thinking I'd like to give our pups more of a "best day ever" experience for their next birthdays. Apparently, I'm not alone. There are entire websites dedicated to celebrating your dogs' birthdays!! Check these out:
Dog Birthday Party website: They have everything from dog friendly treat and cake recipes to a "how to" for making a dog party pinata.
This site, Bark Talk, has ideas and tips for actually planning the party, as well as links to dog-related party supplies and favors.
And WikiHow has a 14-step process for throwing your dog a birthday party.
How crazy is this? Do you all put on a full-out bash for your dogs' birthdays? What fun things have you done?
Elka was born the day before my fiance (years apart!) and so his birthday celebration tends to have her riding on his coattails just a bit. She mugs him for beer, I bribe her with meatballs so I can get a picture of her in a birthday hat, that kind of thing.
ReplyDeleteI'm a lazy "dog mom", I haven't yet baked a meat cake or anything!
