silly, quirky puppies

The silly quirks are the things I love most about our pups. Or, at least they are the things that make me love them all a little differently.

I love the way Suvi absolutely requires a toy in her mouth at all times while rough-housing with Ramsey. She will run away from a wrestling match to catch the ball she's accidentally dropped, before returning to jump on Ramsey, poking her with the ball until it falls out again.

I love the way Pablo needs to have a kiss when one of us gets home from work, before he'll
go out to potty. He'll run around your legs in circles, waiting to be picked up for a quick smooch - then off he goes!

I love the way Ramsey tackles Suvi, then cleans her ears while she's got her on the floor. She's such a momma bear in everything she does - if I'm sad, she's the first to snuggle me, and her concern is always so apparent when she feels like something's wrong.

I love the way Suvi lets me pick her up, hold her like a baby with her belly in the air (a large, large baby) and just hangs her head upside down, enjoying anything that involves being touched or held.

I love the way Pablo knows what "Daddy's home" means, and squeaks by the door until Chad comes in. Sometimes, he's so excited that I can't help but carry him out and hand him to Chad, and he flops around in his arms for 5 minutes before settling down.

I love the way Ramsey picks up her marrow bones and throws them in the air, making sure to get out every last scrap of treat from inside. I've never seen anything like it!

What silly quirks do your dogs have, that make you love them even more?  Comments welcome below!

  1. My boy, Finnegan McGee Connell, is all about rituals, too. We cannot get up out of bed in the morning without 3 things, in this order: 1) cuddles. 2) a proper belly rub. And 3) about 5 minutes of ruffhousing (he wins). If I wake up late and do not go thru the proper schedule he will hang his head and pout. PS) of course he is a rescue doggie!

  3. Our dobie has a quirky habit of sitting on our beagle! Not sure why but she circles around and often times sits right on her head! She too throws her bones in the air and is a huge snuggle-bunny. Love the breed, this is my second and I'm sure there will be more.

  4. i love how my doberman Rainy makes a moo-ing sound at me if she wants my attention....and how she "moos" louder and louder if I pretend not to notice her. Does anyone elses dobe moo? ;)

    1. Funny! Ramsey does the same, and I've never thought of it as a moo! I love that noise, unless it's for the 80th time in a night, because the tennis ball rolled under the couch, AGAIN! hehe.

    2. Ours does it too...she also barks under her breath to get my attention...little soft barks! They are the best.

  5. Elka needs to have a toy if she's greeting somebody. One of us comes home? A friend arrives on a Friday night? One of us wakes up in the morning (or evening, depending on work schedule)? She needs Gumby, or the Monster Mouth, or the rubber horse shoe, and she paces around butt wiggling and tail wagging, Darth Vader breathing around the toy in her mouth.

    1. My Nexus is the SAME way! She has to run and grab a toy if she hears someone come to the house, when she wakes me up in the morning, or anytime she greets anyone, except strangers coming to the front door. And she has the cutest butt dance ever! She wags her whole back side! Bella's nub goes 100 mph, but Nexus's whole butt goes.

  6. That just made me smile. :) My chi, Zoe, has to be picked up when I come home so she can kiss me senseless. Kaci, my Fox Terrier, runs to the cupboard, scratches the door, then barks once..because the "princess" demands her treat. RJ, my other Fox Terrier, runs for a toy and does a victory lap...then jumps up and down barking until I give him a treat. Dogs...they make life more fun! :)

  7. We have three chihuahuas with three distinct personalities. We call the youngest, Frida, "the great manipulator"- if my husband is up late on the computer, she'll stand behind him and make a tiny noise in her throat until he gives in and comes to bed. She'll also walk around the kitchen on her hind legs, trying to see what we're doing at the counter- she can't stand to be left out of anything. Every evening when I announce "Dinner!", our male, Diego, runs into the living room to stalk and kill a stuffed animal for his meal, shaking and snarling at it until his food bowl is ready. And if he's offered a morsel of cheese, he'll leap two and a half feet straight into the air- I'm always amazed at how high he can jump. Our oldest, Isabel, is like Pablo in that she won't go potty outside until we've picked her up for a quick smooch. She also chases her tail like a kitten; and she's too little to jump onto the sofa like the other two can, but she'll hurl herself against it until she gets enough of a purchase to claw her way up. Thanks for sharing your dogs with us!

    1. Too funny! Pablo often takes a few "practice" hops before he actually jumps up on the couch.

  8. My partner's german shepherd, Miss Rett, will ALWAYS get a long drink of water when we walk in the door. We'll leave in the morning, water bowl full and when we get home, it's still full - she hasn't touched it. But, after we greet her, she goes straight for the bowl and drinks like she's parched (which she probably is!). My chihuahua Melly (at Rainbow Bridge now) understood what a camera was and whenever she saw it, would strike her 'superstar' pose - sit prairie dog style, front paws dangling, turn her head slightly to the side and give you her best 'blue steel' look. I adopted her when she was 10 years old and she did that from day 1 with me; I guess her former owners took a lot of pictures of her! Much love to Suvi, Ramsey and Pablo:-)

  9. Our little chihuahua yorkie cross collects my shoes and carries them to her bed before she goes to sleep every night. In the morning when she gets up I tell her to go get my shoes and she runs and brings them to me. What would life be like without these precious fur babies!!

  10. On a hot summer day our Dobie (Roxy) loves sticking her nose in the water to get a drink. We crack up and others can't believe it when they see it.

She also loves sleeping under the cover in between me and my husband. =)

We love your four legged family members!

  11. My Yorkie barks when I get out of my chair, then grabs my sock and acts like she is "attacking" it as I attempt to walk to wherever I am going! She will growl and shake my foot when I stop walking and growls when I am walking! If she gets too close to a toe, I'll kind of say "Hey," and she'll lay off.
She also "tattles" on her sister, a Sheltie. I don't let the Yorkie out on her own but the Sheltie can be. If she is somewhere she shouldn't be in the yard, my Yorkie will come barking at me frantically until I find out what is the problem is and take care of it.
Also, our Sheltie was a very small puppy when we got her and my Yorkie was almost two years old so she is the "Alpha" and to this day our Sheltie bows to her authority even though the Yorkie is small enough to walk right underneath the Sheltie's belly!
You are the perfect girl for Chad, Brandy, and Suvi has really brought some life back to Ramsey and Pablo. Looking forward to more!
